- Women in the crypto sector earn nearly 15% more than men, reversing the traditional gender pay gap
- Women in crypto have more experience and hold higher-level positions compared to men in the same field
- The crypto sector shows a progressive trend towards gender equity, though challenges remain
There’s a surprising shift in the gender pay gap in the crypto world. A recent study by Pantera Research found that women in the crypto industry are earning nearly 15% more than their male counterparts, with average salaries of $172,000 compared to $150,000 for men.
It’s also worth noting that women are more likely to hold mid- and senior-level positions, while men are more prevalent in entry-level roles.
Women in Crypto: Higher Salaries and Senior Positions
Pantera’s researchers found that women make up a higher percentage of mid- and senior-level positions than they do entry-level ones, which are mostly held by men.
A recent survey shows that women in the crypto industry earn almost 15% more than their male colleagues, which means there’s an “inverted” gender pay gap.
Pantera Research Lab found that women in the US crypto sector earn, on average, $172,000, while men earn $150,000. “Our analysis shows that gender pay differences in the crypto sector are the opposite of what is typically seen,” said Pantera researchers Matt Stephenson, Ally Zach, and Nick Zurck on July 29.
Pantera, a venture capital firm focused on digital assets, also pointed out that women working in non-crypto industries generally only earn about 84 cents for every dollar earned by men. “The relatively fair salaries in crypto suggest a move toward greater gender equity, which is a pretty progressive trend in this relatively new field.”
Experience and Representation: The Bigger Picture
Pantera got data from 502 full-time employees based in the US between June 4 and July 20, 2024. They did the survey online and shared it through professional networks like LinkedIn, X, newsletters, and emails.
It looks like women are getting paid more, and it could be because they’ve been in the crypto industry longer. On average, women have been working in crypto for 5.3 years, while men have been in the industry for 4.5 years. Pantera’s researchers also saw that there are more women in mid- and senior-level positions, while more men are in entry-level roles as they start their careers in crypto.
The researchers also said that women probably still have a hard time in this industry. A Forex Suggest report says that only three of the top 50 crypto CEOs in 2023 were women. But both men and women in the crypto industry make more money than most people do.
Conclusions
To sum up, the crypto sector is pretty fair for women. It offers higher salaries and better advancement opportunities compared to other fields.
While there’s still a way to go to achieve gender equity in the workplace, the latest figures show some encouraging signs. This could be a significant step in the right direction.
