- Circle Sony partnership announced and will bring USDC compatibility to the Soneium network
- Circle and Sony are both key companies extremely active in developing blockchain infrastructure – join efforts
- This promises to be a fundamental merger for the entire Web3, significantly blurring boundaries
Circle Sony have announced their partnership to add a USDC native bridge to the new actively developing Soneium network.
This is another major Sony integration with key infrastructure players from across the web3 industry.
Integration Features and Comments from Representatives
Sony has made another major integration into its recently launched L2 blockchain network Soneium, continuing to rapidly expand the number of entry points into its ecosystem.
In turn, Circle, the USDC issuer, is also actively expanding its presence and value to the entire Web3, gaining credibility even in strict regulatory jurisdictions, and that can also be expressed in the figures of a circulating supply of $35.7 billion, representing a 21% market share.
This partnership promises to create the Bridged USDC as the primary token to exchange value to Soneium using the Bridged USDC Standard Circle. This will therefore create a seamless transfer with USDC compatible with EVM and stored on the Ethereum network.
To understand the significance of this event, remember that Sony has been incredibly active in developing its new blockchain network. They demonstrate how big the media giant’s plans are for how blockchain is set to change the entire entertainment industry and everything related to content, from music to games and more. Almost every week we hear about a new integration, such as Astar, Transak, Alchemy, Chainlink, Optimism, and The Graph already among them.
Not as frequent, but no less significant integrations are being welcomed by Circle, which also included Solana, Moonwell USDC cross-chain lending, USDC smart contract support for BlackRock BUIDL owners, and of course the upcoming USDC NFC on Apple Pay.
Jun Watanabe, Chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs said:
“This partnership aligns with our vision of creating a more interconnected and efficient digital ecosystem.”
For his part, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire commented optimistically on the event, pointing out the significance in that it advances the company’s stablecoin adoption efforts, while also empowering creators through Web3 experiences:
“Re-imagine how creativity and innovation are supported in the digital age.”
Conclusion
It cannot be overemphasized how big this event is for the entire Web3 when two key players with an extremely strong base and multiple integrations express interest in each other.
Note that these are infrastructural integrations, not just marketing collaborations.
We will be watching Sone and Circle’s next steps very closely, which, judging by the dynamics, will not be long in coming.
