Crypto exchange Bitget has signed a partnership with La Liga, Spain’s top football league, as the official crypto partner, Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, told CoinDesk in an interview on Thursday at the Token2049 conference.
Bitget Partners with La Liga: A New Era for Crypto in Football
The “multi-million dollar” deal could impact Bitget’s ongoing partnership with football superstar and Argentina captain, World Cup winner Lionel Messi, which is set to end by the end of the year.
“We haven’t decided” how the partnership with Lionel Messi will evolve, but the deal with La Liga is “slightly cheaper” and “gives us much more freedom and deeper collaborations” because we can now invite “some of the most famous footballers to join our events,” including Kylian Mbappé.
The partnership is limited to East and Southeast Asia, as well as Latin America, for two years.
“In the last decade, digitization and innovation have been among La Liga’s priorities,” said Javier Tebas, President of La Liga, in a statement. “Last season, we made this a priority under the umbrella of our New Era, which focused on technology: we want to be pioneers and are committed to this.”
The development comes in the same week that Bitget, along with Web3 investor Foresight Ventures, increased its exposure to The Open Network (TON) by $30 million through a deal with a series of unnamed TON ecosystem whales.
Chen also highlighted that the exchange surpassed 45 million users worldwide earlier this week.
“Even with the Telegram founder arrested in Paris, the TON foundation is not losing momentum. We are very optimistic.”
