  • Will Ukraine not negotiate on Sunday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Trump held talks with Putin and later with Zelensky in an attempt to negotiate a full ceasefire for 30 days, but so far has only achieved a 30-day halt to the strikes, which could be the first steps toward a full ceasefire and a resolution of the conflict in a number of respects fundamental to each side.

Trump, Putin and Zelensky’s Conversation and the Aftermath

It all started with Trump’s conversation with Putin, which as he said turned out to be a very good one.

They discussed the possibility of a full ceasefire, but Putin had a number of key points without which he doesn’t see it as possible:

“How will those 30 days be used? For Ukraine to mobilise? Rearm? Train people? Or none of that? Then a question – how will that be controlled? Who will give the order to end the fighting? At what cost? Who decides who has broken any possible ceasefire, over 2,000km? All those questions need meticulous work from both sides. Who polices it?”

So far they have been able to agree that there will be a 30-day halt to facility strikes, and they have also discussed some important points for a complete cease-fire, such as a Black Sea moratorium on firing.

Witkoff told:

“Up until recently, we really didn’t have consensus around these two aspects – the energy and infrastructure ceasefire and the Black Sea moratorium on firing – and today we got to that place, and I think it’s a relatively short distance to a full ceasefire from there.”

Putin warned Trump that about 40 drones had already been fired, which Zelensky commented was a violation of the agreement. But still, the strikes hit several civilian targets, in particular a hospital in Sumy.

Zelenskiy said in his Telegram:

“Today, Putin de facto rejected the proposal for a complete ceasefire. It would be right for the world to reject in response any attempts by Putin to drag out the war.”

It is also now unclear whether Ukraine will participate in further upcoming talks on Sunday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where other aspects necessary for a peace agreement and security will be clarified.

Conclusions

Trump has overestimated his ability to stop the war in 24 hours, as there are a large number of points of contradiction between the warring parties that have yet to be overcome, as well as a complete lack of trust in each other.

Also, we cannot forget about Europe, which is a key player in this conflict and is now radically changing its position by making fundamental changes in the financial system too. Stay tuned for updates and be adaptive in the rapidly evolving political, financial, and crypto landscape.
