Crypto Is Back on the Discussion Table

Crypto discussions are back in the upper echelons of business and politics. That became clear after a Bloomberg story prompted the second-richest man in the world to have his say on the matter.

Elon Musk, chief executive of Tesla and owner of X (former Twitter), used his platform to voice his support for digital assets. In response to a story by Bloomberg, which cited discussions between him and former President Donald Trump, Musk slammed that journalistic approach and said it never happened.

A False Story Triggers a Real Reply

What’s the story about? Bloomberg reported Thursday that the eccentric billionaire, worth a whopping $204 billion, is in active discussions with Trump over hammering out a cryptocurrency policy.

The article went further to say that the former President, who is again running for office, is talking up Bitcoin and digital assets as a way to draw the attention of new voters. Moreover, it also noted that Trump’s campaign officials were likely to invite Musk to speak at the Republican convention.

Apparently, regulations and guardrails over the novel asset class are needed. But not this way, according to Musk.

Musk Voices Support Over Crypto

“Pretty sure I’ve never discussed crypto with Trump,” he said on X, “although I am generally in favor of things that shift power from government to the people, which crypto can do”

It has to be noted that Elon Musk has not issued a public endorsement of Trump running for President. But he has multiple times in the past spoken in favor of crypto assets such as Bitcoin and — his favorite meme coin — Dogecoin.

Not Musk’s First Rodeo

Thanks to his active involvement with Bitcoin and Dogecoin through various means, he has helped increase crypto space power.

In 2021, Musk introduced Bitcoin as a legitimate payment method for Tesla cars. While it was later dropped over fossil fuel concerns, he made a surprise pivot.

In May 2024, the electric carmaker opened up to Dogecoin as payment for items on the official website. In other words, you can now purchase Tesla items with the Shiba-Inu themed cryptocurrency.
