- Standard Chartered projects XRP could reach $5.50 by year-end and $12.50 by 2028, potentially overtaking Ethereum’s market cap and cementing its role as a leading digital asset
- With SEC approval for XRP ETFs expected by Q3 2025, institutional investors could inject $4 to $8 billion into the market, accelerating adoption and boosting liquidity for Ripple’s altcoin
- Ripple’s expansion into tokenization, including U.S. Treasury funds and RLUSD stablecoin, positions the XRP Ledger as a strong competitor to Stellar in financial tokenization markets
British multinational bank headquartered in London, Standard Chartered, is a firm believer in XRP. This week, the bank’s Global Head of Digital Assets Research Geoff Kendrick shared his insight on the future of the altcoin, projecting a spectacular performance by the end of the year.
In a report shared with TheBlock, Kendrick revealed a very optimistic view on the future of Ripple’s altcoin, projecting a 500% increase in value by 2028. He also believes that XRP is set to overtake Ethereum as the second-largest crypto by market capitalization.Â
Doing so would require spectacular performance by the native token of the XRP Ledger. Currently, Ethereum has a market cap of $170 billion, around $70 billion more than XRP.
According to Geoff Kendrick’s projections, XRP could reach $5.50 by year-end. Currently trading at $1.70, this speculative outlook suggests current holders could see a remarkable 223% gain within eight months.
The head of digital assets research at Standard Chartered also reveals that Ripple’s altcoin could reach the almost outlandish level of $12.50 per token before the next Presidential election in 2028. Given XRP’s total maximum supply of 100 billion tokens, in that scenario, the altcoin would reach a market capitalization of around $1.25 trillion.
Kendrick Sees XRP ETF Approvals in Q3
The report also predicts the United States Securities and Exchange Commission to officially approve XRP ETFs by September 30, 2025. The approval would finally give traditional investors exposure to XRP, which according to Kendrick would add $4 to $8 billion in inflows in less than a year.
What Would Drive XRP This High?
Now free from the backlash of being targeted by the SEC, Ripple is expected to make significant advancing moves to further extend its reach in the financial sector. Adding to its already revolutionary XRP Ledger cross-border — the project has also been dipping its toe into other crypto services such as custody and tokenization.
Ripple has been expanding its footprint in the tokenization space, launching projects such as tokenized U.S. Treasury bond funds and its own stablecoin, RLUSD. These initiatives position the XRP Ledger (XRPL) as a strong competitor in the rapidly growing tokenization market. According to Geoff Kendrick, XRPL has the potential to rival Stellar, which has also made strides in financial tokenization.
