- An anonymous wallet dormant for 10 years moved 496 BTC worth $51.9 million
- The timing coincides with Trump’s pardon of Silk Road mastermind Ross Ulbricht
- Speculation arises that the wallet might belong to Ulbricht, but no official reports confirm this
An anonymous wallet that remained dormant for up to 10 years has just moved a substantial amount of Bitcoin.
The report, shared by CryptoQuant analyst @JA_Maartun on Twitter, revealed that this anonymous investor moved 496 BTC — or $ 51.939.024,00 in today’s quota — on January 22nd. What really catches the eye in this mysterious transaction is the fact that the wallet was not moved for almost a decade.
This week, a major event regarding the first Presidential Pardon by Donald Trump shocked the news. Yesterday, Trump announced that he would be pardoning Silk Road mastermind Ross Ulbricht.
Ulbricht was initially sentenced for life in prison after being found guilty of running a website forum that facilitated illegal drug trades and other illicit activities on the dark web. The sentence was cut short to “only” 11 years after Trump’s pardon.
The timing of this anonymous transaction of 496 BTC raised suspicion by the community, pondering if this investor could be Ulbricht himself. Especially given that the dormant wallet coincidently “woke up” only a day after Ulbricht left prison.
While the FBI successfully apprehended $6.5 billion from the Silk Road case — many theorize that the dark web pioneer was able to “hide” some wallets from the Bureau. However, those are only the community’s speculations as no official reports linking Ross Ulbricht to the 496 BTC movement have arisen.
