- Talks about the firing of Gary Gensler have not ceased
- There are various speculations about who will take his place as SEC chair
- Among other candidates, Goody Guillén is being actively discussed
- Donald Trump may consider Goody Guillén as a priority candidate
Many publications are now actively discussing the Trump transition team’s consideration of Goody Guillén as a priority candidate to replace current SEC chair Gary Gensler.
Goody Guillén is a partner at law firm BakerHostetler and co-lead of its blockchain team, which has opposed many of the anti-crypto initiatives of the SEC and Gary Gensler.
However, there are no official statements from Donald Trump yet, and this remains another candidate among others on the list.
More About Reasons to Pick Goody Guillén as the Next SEC Chair
In addition to the current position, Goody Guillén has extensive experience in working with and opposing the SEC. In particular, Goody Guillén served as General Counsel at the SEC from 2009 to 2011 but later as chief operating officer and managing director at Kalorama Partners with former SEC chair Harvey Pitt advising clients against SEC enforcement cases.
Brendan Playford, co-founder of Masa, a token-powered decentralized data provider for AI companies, put it very precisely:
“She is the best candidate of all the people that are currently being opined on. Goody Guillén would make immediate changes to the SEC. She has a clear understanding of the laws, has a clear understanding of the way the SEC works. We would just have an instant change-maker that would dramatically transform the industry with someone that’s very pro-crypto.”
This idea was supported by several other significant figures, such as Charley Cooper, senior advisor at digital asset solutions provider R3 and a former chief operating officer at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission:
“She is understated … but she’s tough as hell. She would govern based on a substantive understanding of securities laws as they apply to the traditional markets, as well as to crypto, and she will dramatically roll back the prior administration’s default to regulating through enforcement and arbitrarily reading into statutes written 90 years ago”
Also, Nicole Trudeau, general counsel at investment firm Wave Digital Assets, has worked with Goody Guillen on several cryptocurrency-related bankruptcies and SEC foreclosure cases:
“Teresa is a true trailblazer in the crypto space, bringing the expertise and vision needed to lead the SEC and drive the growth of U.S. crypto and capital markets. She embodies everything President Trump envisioned for the sector.”
Conclusion
It is worth noting that her candidacy may indeed sound highly impressive, which makes the probability of her appointment quite high. However, we still have to wait for official statements from Trump’s team that establish some credibility.
Be aware and stay tuned.
