Japanese investment firm “Metaplanet” has just acquired a sizeable investment in Bitcoin. According to recent reports, the firm acquired ¥4 billion worth of Bitcoin—roughly US$ 27,000,000.

The funds were raised through the issuance of 6th Series ordinary bonds to EVO FUND. MEtaplanet announced the plans to raise this capital on January 28.
In total, the Tokyo-listed firm added 269 BTC to its reserves, cementing its place as the biggest Bitcoin owner among publicly traded companies in Asia. Overall, Metaplanet now owns 2031 BTC, only 200 BTC away from breaking the top 10 companies holding the digital asset.

This strategic move aligns with Metaplanet’s long-term goal of accumulating 21,000 BTC by 2026, positioning itself as a major player in the cryptocurrency market. Since September 2024, the company has aggressively purchased Bitcoin, quickly becoming one of the largest holders in the world.
Metaplanet’s average cost per bitcoin is at $80,700 per coin. As of February 17, the company has a Bitcoin yield of 15.3%.
