- Swell has dropped plans to build its L2 based on Polygon
- They are moving into Optimism’s Superchain ecosystem and launching Optimic Rollup on the OP Stack
- They are also going to introduce an innovative “proof of restake” protocol
Liquid Stacking Protocol Swell has revised its plans for Polygon collaboration, specifically building its L2 on Polygon.
Instead, Swell is going to launch its Optimic Rollup on OP Stack and is awaiting a grant from the Optimism Foundation.
Additionally Swell is going to introduce an innovative “proof of restake” approach that promises lower transaction costs and increased security.
Details of Tech Stack Choosing for Swell
It’s worth noting that this is a very fundamental transition that completely changes the development vector of Swell.
To elaborate, Swell will move into Optimism’s entire Superchain ecosystem, which already has key players like Coinbase Base, Kraken’s Ink, Zora, Mode, SNAXchain, and others.
Swell will launch its Optimic Rollup on OP Stack and will use ETH as a gas token instead of the previous rswETH, and allocate a portion of the sequencer revenue to the Optimism Collective like the rest of the Superchain participants.
Also, a very important feature is that Swell is going to implement their innovative “proof of restake” protocol, which they believe should significantly reduce transactions and increase network security, but this is yet to be tested.
In turn, Swell expects a grant from the Optimism Foundation, which will be an important resource for further development, but it is too early to talk about it. The project is still in the early stages of development, and only a test network is expected shortly.
Conclusion
This is a very significant step for Swell, and the great news for Optimism, so let’s see if it gets support from Optimism Foundation.
In turn, this could be a very good sign that more and more projects are integrating with Superchain, which clearly aims to overcome the infrastructural fragmentation of Web3.
We look forward to further announcements, stay tuned.
