On this Friday, the Official Trump token (TRUMP) is set to unlock a massive amount of tokens. In total, the Presidential memecoin is set to add 40 million $TRUMP tokens—roughly $308 million— into the circulating supply.
This token unlock will dilute the circulating supply by 20%, and represents 4% of the total maximum supply.
Surprisingly, today’s token unlock represents roughly a fifth of the total market capitalization of $TRUMP, which is currently at $1.54 billion. Each token trades at a 4% daily increase at $7.73, only hours before the unlock.
The 40 million $TRUMP tokens being unlocked today are primarily allocated to Creators & CIC Digital 1 and Creators & CIC Digital 4:
- Creators & CIC Digital 1 is receiving 36 million tokens (90% of the unlock).
- Creators & CIC Digital 4 is receiving 4 million tokens (10% of the unlock).
Both groups are affiliated with Trump-owned entities and were involved in the creation of the token. This means that the unlocked tokens are likely controlled by insiders rather than public investors.
Is it Shorting Time For $TRUMP?
Token unlocks are generally seen as precursors to major market downturns. As the supply gets significantly diluted overnight—the demand for each individual token drastically reduces, affecting its scarcity and ultimately its value-per-coin.
The $TRUMP token is already down by around 90% since its polemic debut on January 18, only two days before Trump took office.
Moreover, the nature of the asset’s tokenomics also reveals a worrisome perspective on the longevity of the token. If the unlock continues at this pace—40M tokens released at once—the circulating supply could double in just five unlocks, fundamentally altering tokenomics and making the asset highly inflationary.
Today’s unlock will also kickstart an automated unlocking cycle for the groups Creators & CIC Digital 1 and Creators & CIC Digital 4—where 0.049% of the supply will be unlocked every day for 1,024 days.
In three months, the groups Creators & CIC Digital 2 and 5 will unlock their part of the tokens. When it happens, these groups will unlock an even larger amount of tokens than today’s unlock and will also add tokens to the supply on a daily basis. Finally, in January of 2026, the groups Creators & CIC Digital 3 and 6 will unlock their tokens.
The rapid pace of token unlocks raises significant concerns about inflationary pressure on $TRUMP. With 40 million tokens entering circulation today and daily unlocks scheduled for the next 1,024 days, the token’s supply will steadily increase, potentially outpacing demand.
