- Craig Wright, who claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, was sentenced for contempt of court
- Wright’s $1.2 trillion lawsuit against Block claimed he was owed intellectual property rights over Bitcoin
- The U.K. Court ruled against his claims after discovering falsified documents
Craig Wright, the man who claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto just got sentenced to prison after a lawsuit of his doing against Block didn’t go his way.
This development came after Wright sued Block, the company founded by Jack Dorsey, for the extraordinary sum of $1.2 trillion. The lawsuit claimed that Wright was due intellectual property rights over Bitcoin, as he himself claims to have created it.
Back in March, the U.K. Court ruled that it was unlikely that Wright was indeed the creator of the world’s largest cryptocurrency after uncovering falsified documents that corroborated the Australian’s claim.
This lawsuit is far from being the only one made by Wright. Apparently this time, the British court reached a breaking point after warning the Australian to stop suing companies claiming he created Bitcoin.
Craig Wright was sentenced to a 1-year prison sentence for contempt of court, and this penalty was a result of his continued defiance of the court’s orders to cease his litigious activities.
Wright is a computer science PhD, was born in Brisbane, Australia. He was one of the first public characters to claim to have created Bitcoin, and has since 2016 claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto.
During his ventures, he founded several cryptocurrency firms, including DeMorgan Ltd., and Hotwire Preemptive Intelligence Group—which intended to launch the first bank based on Bitcoin.
